Leesburg Attorney Bruce W. McLaughlin Launches
He Said, She S.A.I.D, Recounting His False Arrest
and 4 Years of Incarceration for Child Abuse
A Cautionary Tale for Any Parent Contemplating Divorce
LEESBURG, VA 12/1 —Bruce McLaughlin, an attorney based in Leesburg, VA, is proud to announce the publication of his book, He Said, She S.A.I.D. (Sexual Allegations in Divorce) which will officially launch on January 2, 2021.
McLaughlin’s autobiography highlights a growing trend of one spouse making false charges of child abuse during contentious divorce proceedings. “More than 80% of allegations that happen during a divorce prove to be false,” McLaughlin reports. Parents contemplating divorce need to go into the process with their eyes wide open and be prepared. Despite being a lawyer, Bruce says, “I did neither.” The result was shattering for Bruce and his young family.
Part memoir, part thriller, and part horror story, He Said, She S.A.I.D., retells the story of one man’s arrest, trial, conviction, escape attempt, and 4-year incarceration before he was able to prove his innocence and finally win his freedom. His story is particularly relevant reading amid the #MeToo movement. It also shines a light on aspects of Virginia’s criminal justice system that require immediate reform. Having experienced the fate of criminals consigned to the Commonwealth’s penal system, Bruce has dedicated the next stage of his career to educating the public on what parts of the system need to be changed, sharing his perspective as both a felon and an attorney, and advocating for those changes in the halls of justice.

As a criminal defense attorney falsely accused and jailed during an emotionally charged divorce, McLaughlin found himself ill-prepared for the challenges to proving his innocence. “More than 80% of abuse accusations leveled amid divorce proceedings prove to be false,” McLaughlin has since learned. He was one of the very, very few with the expertise, resources, and network necessary to eventually overturn his conviction—after spending 4 years in jail for an abhorrent crime he did not commit. Bruce’s eventual redemption allowed him to restore his law license, reputation, and life. He continues to rebuild his relationship with his four children.
